Epilepsy cannot be cured it can only be controlled by medicines, implants VNS RNS DBS, are brain surgeries. Even if someone has brain surgery and can get off all anti-seizure medicines, they still have brain damage and a seizure threshold lower than someone who never has had Epilepsy. It is also possible for the seizures to return years later because of scar tissue that formed after the surgery gets to the point where it starts interfering with their brain waves. Scar tissue in the brain is a common cause of epilepsy, I have Temporal Lobe Epilepsy because head trauma caused a lesion in my right temporal and the scar tissue that formed as it healed became a focal point for seizures. My seizures are now completely under control after I had a lobectomy in 2014 and while still on three medicines with one of them at a much lower dosage and I have made a decade epileptic seizure free.
